There are two ways to shoot with Matt in Peru. Photography Expeditions are multi-day journeys into remote regions, designed to guide you to capture outstanding images. Photography Workshops are focused on learning real photography skills whether you are a beginner shooting on a phone camera or a seasoned pro—Matt does not just hand you the best shots. Both are run with small-group ratios to ensure a hands-on experience.

Expeditions are tailor-made journeys for up to 10 photographers focused on capturing THE shot. Matt brings you to the locations and sets up the shots—this is a guided experience, not instruction. Workshops are intimate groups of maximum 6 participants where the focus is teaching you photography skills to apply in your own work, not just handing you great shots.
The expedition price includes all ground transportation within Peru/Chile, accommodation during the expedition, meals as specified in the itinerary, permits and entry fees for protected areas, and Matt's guidance throughout. Not included: international flights, personal gear, travel insurance, and items of a personal nature.
Fitness requirements vary by expedition. Some itineraries venture into challenging mountain terrain requiring good cardiovascular fitness and the ability to hike at altitude. Others are single-day programs without intense physical demands. Each expedition listing includes specific fitness requirements—we're honest about what's ahead so there are no surprises.
At minimum, bring a camera body capable of manual settings, a wide-angle lens (14-24mm or 16-35mm equivalent), and a sturdy tripod. We also recommend a telephoto zoom (70-200mm) for wildlife and landscapes, extra batteries (cold drains them faster), memory cards, and a cleaning kit. A detailed gear list is provided upon booking.
Expeditions accommodate up to 10 photographers. This size allows everyone to get the shot without fighting for position while maintaining the efficiency needed to reach remote locations. The smaller group means more flexibility in timing and location choices based on conditions and light.
Mountain weather is unpredictable, which is why Matt's local knowledge is invaluable. We build flexibility into itineraries and have backup locations. Sometimes the best shots come from unexpected conditions. If weather completely prevents access to a planned location, we'll adjust to alternative spots that offer great photography opportunities.
A 50% deposit secures your spot, with the balance due 60 days before departure. If you cancel 61 or more days out, we keep 30% of the trip price and refund the rest of your deposit. After that, refunds follow our Booking Terms. We strongly recommend travel insurance that covers trip cancellation.
Most Peru-based expeditions start in Cusco or Lima. We provide detailed arrival instructions and can recommend reliable transportation from the airport. Some expeditions include a group transfer if everyone arrives around the same time. Chile expeditions typically start in Santiago or Puerto Natales depending on the destination.
